Yes, there is still an opportunity to enjoy huge passive income from MLM, but there’s a
catch: if the strategies you’re familiar with are of the traditional network marketing
variety, your efforts are doomed to fail. If you want to make money in MLM today, it’s time to
go back to “school” and learn why what was effective yesterday is no longer useful
today.
Aggressiveness is a Turn-Off
Politeness was one of the strict requirements of society in the old days, but it was a rule that
network marketers ruthlessly exploited. In traditional network marketing, marketers were extremely
aggressive and took advantage of other people’s disinclination to appear rude. They exerted
pressure of all kinds until they were able to get what they wanted.
But that no longer works. Now, people are smarter and certainly more open about saying what they
want to say. People don’t hesitate to reject offers outright if they don’t like what
they’re hearing and more often than not, that’s certainly the case with network
marketing.
If you believed aggressiveness could still help you earn money from network marketing,
you’re in for a rude surprise.
Constant Traveling
Network marketing used to demand people to lead transient lives. For someone to make a living
from network marketing, he had to be able and willing to travel to all sorts of places just to find
prospects and hopefully turn them into recruits.
This was indeed a necessity in the past, but only because most of the network marketing companies
that favored this strategy weren’t selling anything original or desirable to the market. They
needed a new location and a new market because people there weren’t yet wise to what they were
doing. Constant traveling was necessary because once people caught up to what they were doing,
network marketers had to hit the road once more.
The blame, of course, lies not in hapless network marketers doing their jobs but in the companies
itself, for making their affiliates believe that they’re truly selling something
desirable.
Thankfully, however, new companies today come with a stronger sense of ethics and nicer products
and services to sell.
Exploitation of Personal Relationships
Traditional network marketing trained individuals to believe that their families, friends, and
loved ones would help them achieve their goals. Some companies may have led their affiliates to
believe that it is their loved ones’ duty to help them. Other companies might have taken the
slightly higher road by making them falsely believe that they were simply sharing a golden
opportunity with their loved ones.
What none of them taught their affiliates was that it takes more than blood to make a person
qualified for network marketing success.
Today’s brand of network marketing explicitly warns people from approaching their personal
network unless they’re convinced that they, too, have the necessary KSA’s for the job.
Traditional network marketing was all about finding any person willing to pay the membership fee.
Modern network marketing, however, is all about finding the right person for the business.
Person to Person Marketing and Cold Calls versus Internet Marketing
Finally, traditional network marketing was founded on two essential things: meeting prospects in
person and making cold calls. Such methods, however, can be costly and quite frankly, ineffective as
well. That’s why today’s network marketing companies have turned to online
marketing.
Thanks to the Internet, network marketing is virtually cost-free but able to generate almost
instant results.
