Whether your child is homeschooled or state schooled, he or she must be taught the same general
curriculum. Although in the case of home schooling one can go into more detail in certain subjects
if one wishes.
The most important factor that differentiates both home schooling and state/private schooling is
that home schooling allows for one on one tutoring where as state/private schools teach in large
groups and in a social environment.
All parents have the desire to offer the best education to their children. So it's only natural
that the parent would prefer to have more control over the educational environment of their children
so as to provide an education that reflects their beliefs and values.
Different mediums for home schooling
There are 4 basic types of a home school course program to choose from. Those types include home
schooling through the Internet, computer software, videotape instruction and from textbooks.
All of these mediums can work well, but as all children are different you will need to see which one
works best with your child.
Some children find it very easy to learn from visual things where as when reading they find it much
harder. Others can find learning on their personal PC to be more engaging.
Naturally it is vital that your homeschool course meets the educational guidelines as imposed your
local authorities.
The educational progress of your child
Because any home school course is facilitated by a parent or legal guardian of the child, the pace
at which the child learns is completely up to the parent. However, there must be steady progress in
the child's educational process.
If you choose to access the classroom materials via the Internet, often the Internet provider will
grant you a license of up to 365 days for completion of that particular course or curriculum.
Testing
In addition, many of the governments require that children enrolled in a home school course be
tested to assess the learning being gained by the student.
Some of this testing is required to be done on a yearly basis while some states require that testing
be done every other year. Often, the test is administered by the parent teacher and can be
submitted in accordance with the rules and regulations surrounding home schooling.
Even if this is not a requirement in the area where you reside, it is often a good idea to have your
child tested on a yearly basis. This will help you to evaluate the curriculum as well as the
progress you and your child are making.
