Top Deck Design Ideas

There are any number of deck design ideas you can implement for your backyard area. From
simple and basic to outright showy and eye-dazzling!

A lot of your patio deck design plans will revolve around how much space you have available for your deck. Ask yourself the following questions before finalizing your plans. Do you want a nice deck-for-two, a small area for breakfast and dinner? A large grande multi-level showcase for parties and entertaining? Will you build stairs, storage, built-in or attached benches? Consider whether you want a simple railing, ornate, or no railing at all. Have you considered what sort of lighting you prefer? Do plan for a formal look or relaxed and comfortable? Figure this stuff out early on and you'll be laser-focused and motivated!

Basic Deck Designs and Types:

* Platform Deck (low to the ground-may not need railing)

* Pool Deck

* Raised Deck

* Rooftoop Deck

* Multi Level Deck

* Spa Deck

* Wraparound Deck

* Second Story Deck

* Small, private, intimate "built-for two" type deck

* Backyard "Island" type of deck

A patio deck can be nearly any shape you can envision!  Don't forget to think about how many levels you want, single, multi-level, or L-shaped if you prefer.

Deck Flooring Patterns Include:

* Diagonal

* Basketweave or Parquet

* Herringbone

* Concentric

* Parallel to Home

* Perpendicular to Home

Laying decking at a 90 degree angle to the framing is the simplest method to use. The more decorative the decking pattern, the more framing you'll need to do. Some people prefer to hire a contractor to build their deck. But, you can also make use of deck design software or simply get out a pencil and some graph paper to design it yourself.

Get to it! Design and enjoy your wonderfully built and decorated deck for years to come!
