It is unbelievable the amount of chemicals you can find in tap water these days.  Most people have caught on to the fact that drinking tap water equals a higher likelihood of getting cancer and other degenerative diseases and for that reason water filters and purifiers are becoming more popular than ever.  What you may not know is the difference between a tap water filter and a purifier.

Using a tap water purifier is better than using nothing at all but purifiers are simply not as effective as filters.  In order to get the most out of your money, it is advisable to invest in a home water filtration system and here are five reasons why that is.

1. A tap water filter is much less expensive than a purifier is.  Filters cost around 9.6 cents per gallon while purifiers can cost up to 26 cents per gallon.

2. A tap water purifier is much slower than a filter.  Filters can produce up to 30 gallons of water per hour while purifiers produce less than a gallon per hour.  In addition, purifiers require much more maintenance.

3. A tap water filter is much more effective at removing contaminants than a purifier.  The purification method called reverse osmosis is not effective at removing synthetic chemicals like herbicides and pesticides while distillation is not effective at removing organic chemicals.  Carbon filters remove everything and anything in between.  Purifiers have to be used in conjunction with carbon filters in order to be effective.

4. A tap water purifier removes the good stuff along with the bad stuff.  Purifiers remove trace minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium and studies show that long-term consumption of water stripped of minerals can have detrimental effects to your health.  Filters using a multi-stage carbon block or granular filtration process are the best because they remove the most contaminants without removing the beneficial minerals.  Drinking mineralized water is essential to detoxification and good health.

5. A tap water filter does not waste any water.  Purifiers, on the other hand, waste 2 to 3 gallons of water for each gallon of water they produce.  Currently it is necessary to protect nature’s resources and wasteful purifiers are simply not in line with protecting our environment.

Now that you are armed with this information, why not start shopping around for a tap water filter for your home?  When you compare cost, convenience, and effectiveness, water filters using carbon block and carbon granular technology stand far above all of the water purification/filtration methods out there.  Get the most for your money and invest in a water filtration system.  You will not regret it.
