If you're like many mom bloggers, you may run out of things to talk about on occasion. Or maybe you just get tired and don't feel like chatting some days, but you know you need an active blog if you're going to make money -- and many bloggers rely on their blog income to feed their families. So, how do you attract more readers and the search engines to your blog on a daily basis? Easy! Add a recipe of the day to keep your blog fresh and tasty. But, where do you find recipes that you can use? Before I tell you the answer, let's get the legal stuff out of the way.

Recipes are not public domain. There are copyright laws that apply to recipes, especially the directions/instructions and collections. I recommend that you check google for "recipe copyright" to read the full story. Basically it states that recipes can be copyrighted, so you can't just copy and paste them or type from a cookbook. That being stated, there are other (much easier) ways to get recipes that you can use on your blog.

So, what are the other ways to find recipes that you can use?

Your Very Own Recipes
Do you have recipes that you make for your family? It could be meatloaf with a special ingredient or salsa with a twist. Take a look at all of the meals that you have personally invented (or altered).

If so, type them into your blog. They are yours to do with as you wish. Anything that you pull directly from your own head -- is free to use on your blog.

Aunts, Grandma & Friends
Does your mother have a special chili recipe that everyone loves?  Ooh, and that spicy dip that your sister always brings to football parties.

Look around the Thanksgiving dinner table and ask everyone to share their recipes. Then, start asking your friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Hire a Writer
The second method that I'd like to share is to hire a ghostwriter to write articles for you. Now, many people don't think about using a ghostwriter in this way, but it can certainly save you much time -- that you could spend in other ways.

PLR Recipes
I've saved the best for last. My favorite way to get recipes for your blog is to buy PLR or private label rights recipes for your use. Why do I love PLR so much?

  • You don't have to write the recipes yourself.
  • You don't have to pay big money to have someone else write them.
  • You can edit the recipes as much or as little as you'd like.
  • You can reuse the recipes on multiple blogs. You can do almost anything with them, even create your own cookbook that you can sell.
  • You can get a lot of PLR recipes for cheap. Some PLR sites sell them for less than a dollar each.

Of course, every PLR site has its own rules so be sure to read them before you buy.

A final tip: I recommend that you edit your PLR recipes so they are unique. Some ways to do this are:

  1. Rewrite the directions.
  2. Give the title a bit of pizazz.
  3. Add a suggestion for the reader. Perhaps recommend a great wine (or beer) for the meal or a side dish.

Now you know how very easy it is to add a recipe section to your blog. I hope you'll consider getting started right away so you can attract hungry readers.
