Michigan Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been trying to get the state's lawmakers to pass
legislation that will let up a little on health insurance companies. They have been publicly
advertising this, as well.
The law under speculation is one that would restrict the state
from having anything to say or do about BCBS of Michigan caring to raise premiums. BCBS of Michigan
is not for profit.
If the law is not put into effect, BCBS of MI says that they will fave
financial unsurity. They are estimating that they will lose $264 million in '09, according to the
Chicago Tribune.
BCBS is not showing any signs of convincing the state legislation of
their impending doom, and there is only one month left in their session.

Attorney General, Mike Cox, is a critic of the law, stating it might not be the best thing right
now. He doesn't seem to feel that there is anything crucial that would not be avoidable.
"There's no reason this can't be done in February or March or April, and done the right way,"
stated Cox. Obviously he feels this issue can wait until next year.
