My child had wished for a long time to follow swimming lessons, but, for a while, I had to search
for the right place for my boy, to no avail. I am a working mother, so I do not have so much time to
spend with him, and I hoped that I could find something engaging and fun for him, without me being
required to be a stay at home mother. It seemed that all the places that I went asking about
swimming lessons for my kid were programmed only during my working hours. My quest seemed to have
not a single chance of success in the beginning and I was starting to lose hope. Before I will share
with you the solution to my problem, I want to tell you a little about my predicament and all the
alternatives that I had tried before reaching my final conclusion.
Someone had told me
that I should look into private swimming lessons for her. I did that as well, discovering that while
they would cater to my schedule, it was not a wise investment for my wallet. I would be paying
double the costs of group swimming lessons. I'm quite sure that the private swimming lessons would
have been more valuable and productive for her, but it was not in my budget. I continued my
search.
Being a mother, I thought that asking other mothers living in the vicinity of my
home would be a great idea. That experience really left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It seemed
that I was the single working mother around the block, so the others looked at me somehow in disdain
when I tried to share my problems with them. Finally, I reached to another, more productive
conclusion. I took the phone and made a call to the local community center. I was surprised to find
somebody willing to talk to me and solve my problem in a satisfactory manner. I was not the only one
in that situation! So the people there decided to give swimming lessons during Saturdays so working
people, like me, would be able to bring their children, with no hassles at all.
My boy
was very excited that he would take part to swimming lessons. I prepared him in advance and all the
family took part in his excitement. I really hoped that it will work just great for him as he was
already waiting for a long time to catch up with all the youngsters in our family, used to splashing
water around in the pool, at our family gatherings. I was happy that I would not have to watch all
the time over him to not fall into the water, during such occasions.
The first day of her
swimming lessons arrived and she was hyper. She looked absolutely adorable in her new bathing suit.
As the instructor called the class into the water signaling the start of swimming lessons, she
tentatively joined them. Whenever she looked over her shoulder to see if I was there, I waved back
happily. Swimming lessons turned out to be wonderful for her. She not only made new friends but she
did gain quite a bit of confidence. It was amazing to me how her confidence quickly led to my own
confidence. All thanks to Saturday swimming lessons.
