You can find defibrillators for sale in a lot of stores. You might need one yourself if your doctor recommends it for your heart condition. Picking the right unit however is not always easy. Here are some things to consider when choosing your unit:

Main Types of Defibrillators

People with erratic heart rates need a defibrillator to prevent life threatening situations. You should know though that defibrillators come in different kinds. The ones used in hospitals and ambulances can only be operated by expert and qualified medical personnel. This is mainly because these defibrillators rely on the assessment of the operator before they can be set for use on a particular individual. There are also some units that can be implanted as determined by a doctor. In other words, defibrillators found in medical facilities cannot be used by people without medical training.

Defibrillators for Home Use

Defibrillators that are automatic can provide you with the help that you need when you are far from a medical facility. These units can be operated by a friend, relative or even a stranger when you need assistance. You do have to ensure though that you have a very good unit. Here's how you can choose the right unit:

- You would naturally want to avoid defective defibrillators. Before you buy a unit, make sure you research on product recalls and product warnings. It would probably be safer to avoid product brands that have a record of recall. It would also help if you read a couple of online defibrillator reviews written by consumers who have used various brands.

- Defibrillators for home use are meant to be used by people without medical training. Some units however are simply easier to use and understand than others. Make sure the unit of your choice has comprehensive but simple instructions and drawings to follow.

- Automatic defibrillators are expensive. That is what you would expect though if you want a good unit that will work in emergencies. The price should go well over $1000 or $2,000.

- Portability is another aspect to consider. Some units are so highly portable that you would be able to easily bring them along during trips.

- The batteries are another major component to think of. Your unit should be able to last for a long time. There should also be clear reminders or warnings when batteries need to be replaced.

- Find out the warranty policy of a unit. Aside from the number of years you will be allowed to return the unit, find out too if a manufacturer or distributor offers free repair or service within the warranty period.

These are only some of the basic concerns in evaluating defibrillators for sale. They are however, very important points that you should never neglect. After all, it's your life that's at stake.
