In the unfortunate event of a sports injury, immediate care is usually required. This can
occasionally force a compromise to be made: you must either wait to see a highly acclaimed
physician, or sacrifice care in efforts to be seen quickly. At the Emory Sports Medicine Center this
compromise has been eliminated. Emory staff delivers world-class care and procedures and can get you
back to enjoying your favorite sports faster than ever.
Both surgical and non-surgical treatments are available to treat any sports injury. So whether you
have a sprained ankle or a torn ACL, your injury will be treated with care that is unmatched. Listed
below are a few of the more common procedures that are offered at the Emory Sports Medicine
Center.
The list of non-surgical services is quite extensive. Emory offers diagnosis and treatment for
sports-related injuries including the knee, shoulder, foot, ankle, elbow and hand injuries.
Radiology services including X-ray, ultrasound, MRI and CT scans are also available. Rehabilitative
and therapy programs are conducted in-house. Injection of medications to alleviate pain and promote
healing is another non-surgical service offered. Emory will also use orthotics, braces, and splints
if deemed a necessary alternative to evasive treatments.
With regard to surgical services, Emory offers some of the most advanced treatments, especially for
knee injuries. One of the most vulnerable parts of the body in sports is the knee - Emory recognized
the need for more efficient and prolific knee surgeries and has become a world leader in this area.
New techniques are being implemented involving the acl, pcl, meniscal and cartilage surgeries.
Shoulder surgery is another forte of Emory's. These surgeries are performed arthroscopically; a
surgeon can now operate using a tiny camera inserted into the skin. This means a shoulder surgery
patient no longer needs to worry about scars, instead, only a few very small holes are left in the
skin.
The Emory Sports Medicine Center also performs tennis elbow repairs, ulnar collateral ligament
repairs, and bicep tendon repairs, all new surgeries that would have been impossible a few years
ago. Elbow injuries such as tennis elbow used to be a debilitating injury or even career ending for
some athletes but can now easily be treated at Emory.
Through the years, numerous professional athletes in the NFL, NBA and MLB have been successfully
treated at the Emory Sports Medicine Center. The reason Emory sees such high profile athletes is
mostly due to their reputation for offering world-class care and the most advanced treatments. The
Emory Sports Medicine Center is will undoubtedly be the place of choice because of their treatments,
their capacity, and their reputation.
